Drift Budgets let you govern modernization debt. A drift budget is a target drift score for part of your estate, plus a warning when that target is breached. It turns "keep things reasonably current" into a number you can hold a team to.
DriftScore runs 0–100 where 0 = no drift (best) and higher = more drift (worse), so lower is better and you set targets as a ceiling drift must stay under.
Set a drift budget
A drift budget gives an application a target drift score and warns you when it's breached.
- Open the application and select Drift budgets.
- Select New budget.
- Set a target score and the scope it applies to.
- Select Save.
Vibgrate now tracks the application against this target and flags it on your dashboard if it goes over.
What you'll see
- Budgets — the targets you've set and what each applies to.
- Consumption — how much of each budget is used, so you can see who's approaching the limit before they cross it.
- Breaches — where drift has gone over target, and by how much.
How to read a breach
A breach is a threshold crossed, not a failure of character. "This budget is breached by 8 points" simply means drift is 8 points over target — and the budget detail points you at the biggest contributors so you know what to fix first. Budgets are most useful as an early warning: watch consumption climb and act before the breach, not after.
